On October 16th, 2016, we officially published our presence as a group and released our debut effort: Closer. In the 365 days that would follow, we would go on to create some great additional content, find our groove as a band on stage, and bring MEGA PIXEL on the road; from the top of the mitten in Northern Michigan all this way to SXSW in Austin, TX. It was the first time in both of our careers that we were able to generate so much life from a collection of songs.
Closer represented a transition for us as musicians. We were no longer just two guys doing our own thing. We had become a fantastic team that is still just scratching the surface of our potential. We know this to be true because we are still learning.
To celebrate this first year of MEGA PIXEL, we’ve decided to give Closer a refresh. The four original tracks are still there but when you search for the record, you’ll notice that we’ve included the instrumentals as well. We also decided to lose the “EP” from project. The "production" or instrumentation and mixing of a record is just as important to us as the songs themselves, so these new (inst) versions will hopefully allow you to hear all the emotion we put into these tunes separate from the lyrics. We want you guys to know us inside and out; from the opening swell of Let Go to the first lick of Born With It (Instrumental). Issa vibe..
This new version of Closer can be found on all digital retailers and stores. We’ve also included some links below.
As MEGA PIXEL, we can’t express enough how much your support has meant to us this past year. The love that you have shown Closer has taken us to heights that we didn’t even think about when we first started this project.
We can’t wait to hear what you guys think of the new stuff;)
Ben and Dave
This past Spring, our own Benjamin Rivet (BJSR), released a new single entitled speakeasy on his Bandcamp page. 7 months later, this nearly 4-minute sub-bassa groove session is available on all major streaming platforms. The new release also includes the instrumental version which gives listeners a chance to jump in the ambience sans vocals.
We're right in the middle of summertime and through the month of June we have been working together on Dave's and Ben's new solo projects. But July is all MEGA PIXEL... and it couldn't get much sweeter! We've two incredible shows coming up this month that we want to see all of you at. First, July 22nd, we'll be Dayton playing the 3rd annual Malawi Music Fest. June 29th we are joining some amazing artists in Newport, KY for the 2017 Tiny Desk Showcase presented by NPR and 91.7 WVXU. Our live set has become something that we are proud of as artists and we want you to experience it. Hit the links above to find out more about each show.
Oh, we've also been writing a lot and will be taking a trip up to the woods of northern Michigan to test out new jams.
We'll keep you posted😎
In celebration of our first (official) show in our hometown of Dayton, OH, we pieced together footage from our performance at Voodoo Doughnut in Austin during SXSW. This particular video provides you with our take on Sia's 2016 banger, Reaper. See Ben get in his zone with his harmonizer while Dave floats around the shop rocking a dope new verse. Hope you enjoy!
Dakin Hardwick of San Francisco's Spinning Platters was kind enough to include us on the site's 2017 SXSW review. Check out the full list at the link below!
We're currently in Austin for SXSW and a week's worth of multimedia sharing, networking, art, and all things content. To celebrate, we'd like to share a video we've been working on for "Let Go", the first track off our EP. The video pays tribute to the song's inspiration, which happens to be one of the best moments in Disney history. Enjoy and share if this takes you back to your childhood. After you're done, be kind and rewind. #LetGo
We leave for Austin in a few days for our first trip to SXSW. If that isn't exciting enough, our own Benjamin Rivet (BJSR) just released a very smooth new single as a tribute to Dayton's very own Speakeasy Yoga. Inspired by the magic of the studio space and the love of dance beats and bossanova, this soundtrack to Speakeasy by BJSR embodies everything the studio is made of.
Take a few minutes to listen and let us know what you think. Available for stream and download on Bandcamp now.

We're happy to announce that we will be heading down to Austin, Texas for SXSW 2017! We'll be playing at Voodoo Doughnut's Showcase on Friday, March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) with Devin Millar, Velvet and Roselit Bone. We also plan on doing some street shows and potentially a few other venues. If you plan on heading down to Austin, let us know! We would love to link up and hang out:)
As some of you may remember, Nashville blog, Loud Vitamins, interviewed us in January about Closer and our plans for 2017. They came back around to speak with our good buddy PINEL about his brand new single, Notations. It looks like the two had a great conversation and to save you some time, we went ahead and pasted some of the interview here for you to read. Hit the link below to check out the full interview and listen to Notations here.
Where are you from? does your location influence your sound?
I am from Dayton, Ohio. I have lived in Dayton my whole life, minus a stint in Nashville after I graduated from college. Dayton, the city, has not really shaped my sound, but the people have. The atmosphere around the city is one of collaboration. I have many people that help me on a daily basis to shape my sound. Living in the music capital of the world, Nashville, also profoundly helped me shape my sound. I worked in a recording studio, Sound Emporium, and being able to see and hear all the different types of sounds people were making really inspired me.
How long have you been doing music?
I have been making music since I was about 15 years old, I’m 27 now. I have worked with all sorts of styles from country to hip hop to the more indie electronic stuff I am making with this project.
How and why did you get into music?
I used to play hockey as a hobby and an extracurricular activity. I got hurt playing and could not play anymore. My dad introduced me to guitar and it was over from there. I have since moved away from playing and more towards the production side, but this experience early on really helped shape where I am now.

Over the weekend we decided to submit to the 2017 Tiny Desk Contest presented by NPR. On Friday night we hung out at Dayton's Nucleus Compound and filmed this live performance of Born With It. The idea behind the Tiny Desk Series is a constant source of inspiration and entertainment for us and it felt great to get together and jam out. Plus it was Dave's first day back on his feet after surgery. Here's to getting out there and sharing your creativity and passion with the world. After all, you are Born With It.
While visiting his home state MI, Ben stopped by the shop he bought his first guitar from, Elderly Instruments. Check out this rendition of our tune "Till Then" on this beautifully expensive guitar. Enjoy ◻️ Stay strong today and keep dreaming. 👊🏻
To end 2016, our own BJSR decided to remix one of his favorite Local Natives tracks. Ben provides a deeper, darker look at You & I. There's a new structure and new energy, but he never departs from the hopeful angst that fans love about this song. A new 4X4 sub-kick and throaty (original) bass drives the sliced-up trumpet through a sea of reverby vocals, reimagined synths and rearranged lyrical sentiments. Hit the link to listen to the song on Soundcloud.
To kick off 2017, we sat down with J from Loud Vitamins to talk about CLOSER, the creative process behind the EP, and our plans for the new year. Hit the link to check it out!
We love Cleveland. For Dave, it's home. That being said we are very grateful to ImFromCleveland.com for being the first site to feature Closer . Click the link below to view post and make sure you follow IFC on Twitter and Instagram at @ImFromCle.
Hello world! We are MEGA PIXEL and we are very proud to say that our debut project "Closer" is finally here! You can now stream the EP exclusively on YouTube and it will soon be available on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, etc.
"Closer" is the product of about a year's worth of collaborative work between artists BJSR, Dave Zup, and PINEL. The EP was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely by the three musicians independently in Dayton, OH, and exists without major label funding or promotion. It aims to grow organically with our fans.
This record is more than a passion project for us. Over the past year, these songs have become transformative for our creativity and artistic careers. As a collection of music, "Closer" serves as a soundtrack for the times where we need to take a break from the world and get groovy. We find that meditation through music is a natural, therapeutic high. We are so happy to share this project with you and hope that you take away from it as much positivity and strength as we have.
We also hope that this site allows you to become immersed in more than the music. We want you to feel the same emotions that we did when we created it. On each page of this site, you are able to sift through each individual track of every song and hear the project from multiple facets. If you want to listen to just the drums on "Sweet" or the guitar tracks on "Born With It" you can, and we encourage you to do so. We also welcome all other creative minds to download and remix your own version of each song. We created this site to be a shared experience and something that will constantly be updated with new work from Dave, Ben, and Ronnie.
Take some time to look at this project in detail. Look and listen closely. You might find something new every time.
